"Hi, I'm Allen and welcome to Expert Village. Today, I'm going to show you how to build your very own personal computer. Alright, we'll talk about hard drives real quick here. This one is an IDE hard drive, this is by the company Maxtor who I believe was just acquired by Seagate and pretty much I've used Maxtor, Seagate and Western Digital a lot, good brands and depending on the mother board that you get is going to determine what type of drive you need. Almost all of the boards still support the IDE or EIDE which is enhanced IDE, same type of connection so no worries about that. Some of the newer boards support PATA or the brand new SATA or SATA 2 which is serial connection and it has like these little cables and nice and clean looking inside. But also be careful because these cables are a little flimsy where they connect. Like I said with the power too just be very careful with that. Most of the drives these days you really don't see fifty-four hundred RPM drives you're going to want to look for something that's seventy-two hundred RPM and depending on the size of the drive and things like that. Seventy-two hundred RPM is the way to go, you can definitely capture video at a good speed. Some of the higher end systems if you really, really want to go quick I think you can still get the CHETA drives which are ten-thousand RPM, actually insane. But these drives really, really do a good job. As I said the Maxtor drives are really nice, haven't had too many problems they have good warranties on them and they really live up to them. I did run into a problem with I believe a Western Digital drive, no I'm sorry a Seagate drive who is now Maxtor plugged it in and it obviously was a bad drive and they took care of it. They sent me a brand new drive out, very happy, no problems, things like that happen what are you going to do right. But that's the hard drive that will get you going. You can find these in the stores and it's a really good start right there. Hard drive."
