"DARREN STORR: Hi, my name is Darren Storr on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you how to run a 400-meter sprint. Lactic acid is a threshold for the body, which means that when oxygen is not pumping enough, when oxygen is not pumping enough red blood cells through the body, it shuts down. So one of a--metaphorically speaking, it's like a bear jumping on your back. When oxygen is not flowing correctly to the muscle group, it shuts down. When red blood cells are not going exactly where you want to, it shuts down. One of the reasons--to avoid this, one of the things you could to avoid this is proper stretching. This helps a lot if you loosen up some of the gluteus muscles, the hip flexors, the hamstring. It helps you to release a lot of lactic acid from your body. Like once again, I say again, the lactic acid is because when oxygen is not pumping enough blood, or red blood cells to certain muscles, it shuts down automatically."
