"DARREN STORR: Hi. My name is Darren Storr. On behalf of Expert Village, I'm showing you guys how to run the 4 x 100 relay. All right, this is my teammate, Louis Young. He's going to help me demonstrate some of the baton relay exchanges throughout the zones. Like I said, good exchanges compensate for the lack of speed around the track with the baton. So you want to be able--each runner want to be able--he must be able to pass the baton on safely into those exchange zones. Like I said, runner one he's coming with a full range of motion, same motion as if you're running 100 meters. But you have a flying start and it is a split time, so runner one he's using his right hand, exchanging it passing on to his left hand to runner two. He has to be in an exchange zone to make sure he gets it fully and safely to continue to the next third leg. And this is complete--you do it--this is run hurriedly around the track until the finish line. Usually world-class sprinting--world class 100-meter runners, this is done within 37-38 seconds. Like I said, the US, United States, has the world record and they currently hold that at 37.40."
