"So this is active stretching. So it can be done right after the warm up run and before forms and the goal here is to open up the hip. And it's a progressive thing. You've already warmed up, blood is flowing, and you try to get a little more out of it each time the momentum of your leg. Side swing the front and to the back. You do both sides. Ten or twelve per leg is a good number. And ideally, foot and heel are coming up a little bit higher each time. Your hips are your prime movers so opening those up will help you run better. Then cock the outside foot at 90 degrees and work on the hip at a different angle. Same thing though, trying to get a little bit more out of it each time. Work both sides. Some other variations you can do with active stretching, coming up high and back far. Again, it should be kind of progressive, get more and more out of it with each swing. You can do those on each side. In efficient running, you're striking on the front of your foot. So another drill it kind of goes along with the V drill that we showed, pawing, emphasizing extending the toe and striking on the front of the foot. For many people are guilty of the plodding, where you're heel striking, which is effectively breaking. And so as you become a more efficient runner, you get up onto the front part of your foot."
