How to Hit a Draw Shot in Golf

"Hello! My name is Bryan Pemberton on behalf of expertvillage.com and I am from the Reserve at Spanos Park and we are going to talk about how we actually work a ball from right to left or what we call a draw for a right handed player. A right handed player will be hitting a draw that starts off right of the target and actually moves to the left to his target. What we will do is sit down a couple of clubs here and show you exactly how we do that. So when we are hitting a draw or hitting a hook is a shot that actually will show a club path coming from inside out or down the line rather than over the top. Again this shot is a little bit more difficult to actually play. You will see a lot of good players try to actually perform these shots when hitting into the green. This shot typically goes a little bit farther, a little bit lower but you will see your better players hitting more draw. Again this shot has a little bit more power because of the swing coming from the inside out. The way we actually aim a ball to draw into our target is we actually will aim our club at the intended target. Let's say the white post out there is our target, we'll actually aim the club at the target and we will actually move our body leaving the club exactly at the target but I will move my body to actually start it as far right as I need to. The farther right I actually aim the ball or start the ball the more the ball is going to hook only if the club is actually aimed at the target. So what we will do is aim the club right down the target line and I am going to move my body to the right or as far right as I actually need to start it. I actually get a swing that comes more from the inside out and you will see a ball generally the divots will typically go from inside to out when you hit a draw. This ball again goes a little bit lower. It is probably a little more difficult to execute this particular swing than a swing that is a little bit more down the line or over the top. Again if we had to hit a bigger hook or bigger draw, again we would always leave the club at our target and move our bodies as far right as we need to leaving the club at the target. Now this looks to most people looks like a closed club face and again it is a little shut down and actually delocks a little bit so that is actually going to hit the ball a little bit lower. So we will generally end up at your target. "
