"Hello! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Bryan Pemberton from the Reserve at Spanos Park and we are talking about the golf swing today. What we are going to talk about is tempo and what proper tempo is or what is good tempo. Every player has different tempo but what you will find in tempo is it actually is what the consistency depending on straight ball shot solid has a lot to do with your tempo. What that means is how fast the club gets from your set up to the top and back down to impact. A lot of times you are going to find that your tempo from the point of setup to point of impact is probably going to be right around just under a second. For the driver or longer club, it is going to be a little longer. With a shorter club, it is going to be probably quicker; probably .6 or .75. So it only takes one second; not a whole lot of time. If you are having problem with your tempos or hitting the ball solid, one of the things you can work on is a drill and I always like to think of this. When you are making a golf swing, the length of your golf swing to the top is what we'll call a full swing. From here a good drill is to actually try and hit this at maybe 80 percent or 75 percent instead of at a 100 percent all the time. So a good drill just to work on tempo is take the club to the top, full swing and try and only hit it 80 percent or 75 percent and you are going to find that your tempo becomes a lot better. It is probably going to increase your distance instead of decreasing it. You always find that if you swing easy in golf, the ball actually goes farther. What the tempo does is it changes your tempo and gives you more time to release the club and hit it more square."
