"Next let's talk about socks. Socks for fencing are high. They have to cover your entire shin. They are for protection. They'll protect your legs. So, actually, by the time you have your socks up, and your knickers or fencing pants down, you won't have any skin showing. Socks don't actually have to be white. I think they look a little better if they do, but you can go a little crazy. Any solid-colored sock is permissible. And you want to select a sock that is thick enough to offer you a little bit of protection. If you want to take a look at how high the sock will actually have to come up. Do not use my sock as an example. These are far too short; they're not fencing socks. I'll use these for practice, I would never use them in competition. But you're actually going to have a sock that comes up very high, and protects this entire part of your leg, so that where the shoe leaves off protecting you, the sock picks up, and then of course the pants pick up again after that."
