" Hello! I’m Dan and this is Brian from Eastern Mountain Sports on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we’re going to be discussing the buddy check of the belayer, in this scenario Brian’s going to represent the belayer and I’m going to be the lead climber. The buddy check is similar but there’s going to be several other things we want to, we want to check that his harness is double back as well, we want to check the waist and the two leg loops. With the belayer you want to check and make sure that he is hooked in to the right spot. When the belayer hooks in he wants to have the biner hooked in to the belay loop of his harness and you want to always make sure that you’re using a locking carabiner. A locking carabiner is going to be great in case the biner slips it’s not going to open it’s always going to be locked so as a buddy check you want to make sure that not only it’s a locking biner but it’s actually locked. So you just double check that it’s locked and then you want to make sure that he has threaded the rope through the belayed devise correctly, you want to make sure that the rope to the climber is on the top here and that the bottom rope is to the bottom where he can use that as his break hand. So once you check and make sure that he has all of his things double backed, that he has a locking carabiner and that he has the ropes that are correctly, you’re safe to climb."
