" Hi! My name is Dan and I am here with Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about synthetic sleeping bags. There are a few pros and cons to them over Down sleeping bags. Some of the cons are that the down sleeping bag is much smaller and lighter than the synthetic bag. Some of the pros to a synthetic bag is that when wet, it retains its loft and will keep you warm. There are many different kinds of bags rated for different levels of coldness. This is a 40 degree bag. It is fairly basic. It is a mummy bag which means it has a little hood that comes over your head. This one happens to be a left handed zipper. You can get it in a right handed zip and if you have two of the same bags, one with a right handed zip and one with a left, you can zip them together. Synthetic bags don’t leak fill which is a nice feature but as I said before they tend to be heavier. Also in case of fire, they do melt and all their filling with melt, whereas a feather will not. For storage, you can stuff it while you are camping into a stuff sack. When you are done with your expedition and your sleeping bag is clean and dry, you want to leave it unstuffed to preserve its fibers. Most bags will come with a nice mesh bag to store it with. At the end of my trips, I will put my sleeping bag in here, put it in my closet and forget about it. "
