" Hi! My name is Dan and I am here with Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about water filtration, mainly pumps. There are several different kinds of pumps on the market and different ones remove different pathogens from the water. So it is important to read exactly what your pump does before purchasing. Pumps are very good at removing large particulates, so if you are taking water out of a small pond where there are a lot organic materials, the pump may be an excellent choice. Typically a pump will have an in or intake and a place where the water will come out. Your in pump or your intake is going to have a little particulate filter on the end with a floating toggle to keep the intake off the bottom water. The outflow comes with an adapter which conveniently fits into most outdoor use water bottles. It is ideal to keep your bottle upright with a little adapter; it is not necessary. With just a few short pumps, you can fill up an nalgene bottle. When you are finished with your pump, it is important to run it dry leaving it completely intact and continue pumping. One your expedition is finished, it is also important to completely break apart your pump and take the filter out. You can allow it to air dry and if it appears to be clogged up, it might be time to replace it. "
