"Hi! My name is Dan and I’m here for Expert Village. Today we’re going to be talking about different kinds of woods to use in a campfire. Pine and spruce both burn quite easily. They don’t burn very hot but they also tend to split and throw sparks away from the fire. They also don’t burn very hot or very clean. Many hard woods, like ash and beach, burn very hot and burn well and don’t have a lot of knots to split and throw sparks. Maple is another excellent wood, it gives a very nice flame. It’s hard and also hard to come by. There’s a few woods that you want to look out for; mainly poison sumac and poison oak. Inhaling the smoke from these, can cause intense respiratory ailments, and typically results in trips to the emergency room."
