" My name is Dan and I’m here for Expert Village. Today we’re going to talk about where to get firewood for your campfire. A general rule of thumb is to gather dead and downed wood, trees that are already dead and have fallen. Gathering small fallen wood tends to be better than taking off of standing trees, since the dead wood has a little bit of time to dry out. Another thing that you’ll find is that you can break branches off of living trees, but in designated campsites you’ll find a lot of the times that the people before you have had the exact same idea and you’ll have to travel quite far into the woods before you can find any of these twigs. But like I said before, a good rule of thumb is to get dead and down. "
