"Hi, I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. We're here today at Chapel Ledges in Ashfield, Massachusetts, Trustees of the Reservations Property and in this series I'm going to be talking about preparing to climb. I want to talk about top manage or top belay top roping systems. It still a top rope because I'm above my climber, the rope is still about them, they're still being belayed from above and not facing any lead falls. But this is different because instead of them starting at the bottom and returning to the bottom, here I am on top of the cliff or midway on the cliff. Why would you want to use this? Situations such as climbing in a gorge, climbing on sea cliffs, climbing cliffs that are too tall for your rope to be doubled up. So those are some of the advantages. Some of the disadvantages, my climber is starting way below me I can't see them so well, it's difficult or more difficult to communicate, but sometimes it works better. So, I'm anchored in to my anchor here, they're on belay from above, they come up and I bring in the rope. Top managed, top rope system."
