"Hi, I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. We're today at Chapel Ledges in Ashfield, Massachusetts, Trustees of the Reservation Property and in this series I'm going to be talking about preparing to climb. What is lead climbing? Well lead climbing is a relatively advanced technique that you're not going to do right off the back, but you should know what it is. So, when you're out at the cliff and you see someone lead climbing you know what's going on. Right now I'm on lead, tied to my rope, got my protection here, my belayers below of me feeding me rope. If I fall from here, I'm going to fall this far below there, that's a leader fall, that's why you don't do it at the beginning. So, I want to keep moving up. I need another piece of protection in above me, find something that works, slot it in, clip my rope, now I'm ready to keep moving up."
