Series Summary

A gasoline pump is a machine at a gas station that is used to put gasoline in vehicles. Since gas pumps provide the primary method of distributing fuel to the general public, and fuel is a hazardous substance, they are subject to specific requirements regarding safety, accuracy and security. In modern gas pumps, the major variations are in the number of hoses or grades they can dispense, the physical shape, and the addition of extra devices, such as pay-at-pump devices.

While pumping gas is a relatively simple process, some drivers - especially new drivers - just don't know what to do at first. In this free video series, an automotive expert will teach you how to put gas in the car with step-by-step instructions. You'll learn where to find the gas tank, how to access it, how to remove the nozzle and select a fuel grade, and finally how to start pumping gas! While there can be variation in gas pumps, the basic process is universal. So, watch these free videos, and find out how to pump gas for yourself!

Video Transcript

"Hi! This is Dan Wolstenholme on behalf of Expert Village to show you how to pump gas. In this segment we are going to talk about the location components on the vehicle. You always want to familiarize yourself with the location of the fuel door and the fuel door release when driving a vehicle. So let's walk over and we will show you the fuel door release. Most cars when they have a fuel door release just inside such as this one. You push this down and it will automatically release the door over here so you can get out and release the fuel cap. Always remember when you are pulling into a gas station, make sure to look back and locate on either side of the vehicle by your mirrors which gas or side of the gas door is on so that you get to the right side of the car so you don't have to stretch the hose over the car to fill it with gas.
