Safety Tips for Making Biodiesel at Home

"CRAYDON BLAIR: My name is Craydon Blair from Utah Biodiesel Supply, and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be talking about some of the safety equipment that you need to have in order to make biodiesel, particularly in large batches. Something that's real important is a set of safety goggles. Methanol which we'll be using is kind of dangerous. You don't want to get it in your eye so you need some safety goggles. You're going to need some safety gloves which you can pick up at Wal-Mart or different places or I got these at Harbor Freight. You'll going to want a fire extinguisher. Just to be safe. No fires really, really ever happen but it's good to be safe. You also want to get a chemical apron. And this can be had from a chemical store, online or different things like that, and they basically just go around you. You want it to cover your whole body so that if you get any splashes, you're okay. These goggles will protect you so that if you splash any chemicals as well, you'll also be okay. And these, of course, will protect your hands. And you also want to make biodiesel in a fairly well ventilated area. Tiny little closet space, not good, big kitchen area, pretty good. So, those are the safety things you'll need to make biodiesel."
