Series Summary

Which car you purchase can be one of the most important decisions you make for your family. Many people feel that the decision to buy a family car usually means just one word: minivan. Nevertheless, with concerns of safety, road reliability, seating and storage capacity, and price being paramount for you, your spouse, and your children, the art of choosing one particular vehicle becomes a delicate balancing act of needs and wants. The minivan usually represents a total surrender for car owners who once thought of their vehicles as reflections of their own personal tastes. Automobiles have a history of being dangerous. From the beginning, drivers were crashing into things, getting into fender benders, and losing their lives on the road. Only in the last 50 years, really, has the automotive industry taken a thorough approach to integrating road safety features into their products. Now we have seat belts, airbags, child restraints, and crumple zones. In this free video guide to buying a family vehicle, learn what to look for, whether buying a new car from a dealership, or a used car out of the paper. Our expert will walk you through the steps, helping you decide what trade-offs to make to get the best vehicle at the best price, meeting the needs of your family and having some of the features you really want.

Video Transcript

"Hello! My name is Steve Kennedy, I am here at Warren Cliff Chrysler to help you with tips on when you are buying your next family vehicle. The starting point of any search for a vehicle starts off with me. What are your needs? It’s either to improve a situation that you are at right now; like if you are already driving one car and you want to get into a newer car, if you are looking into getting a two door into a four door, that is the first thing you should look at and the other one is just plain necessity. Do you have a 16 year old who is starting to get their drivers license and looking for a car for them or something of that nature. That is usually where it always starts off with the needs and it will always help you with your game plan because just before you start looking for a new car, you want to start off with a game plan and that is always the best starting point. You want to start off with identifying exactly what your need is so it will be easier to feel that need rather than just going around in a knee jerk reaction. That is always the good place to start."
