Series Summary

Rugby was developed from a game that was played at Rugby School in England. Rugby uses a ball that is shaped like a prolate spheroid, much like an American football. In rugby, two teams of fifteen or seven players (depending on the version played) are trying to score the most points. Points can be scored in various ways including some of the following: touching the ground over the opponent’s goal line with the ball in hand, a conversion play where a player kicks the ball at the goal line where the previous touch-down occurred kicking the ball above the crossbar and between the uprights of the field post. Scoring in rugby is similar to the rules of American football.

"My name is Alex. I am from Missoula All-Maggots in Missoula, Montana and now we’re going to learn how to do a simple drop kick. The drop kick in the scoring time in the game brings you the points. So then what this is: the ball touches the ground, as soon as it does, you want to make sure you strike it and put it thru the upright. With the ball, when you drop it, point back up towards your shoulder with the dominant foot. That way the ball is going to bounce a little bit towards you, not away from your foot, really simple. I will show you one here. Now I am going to show you slowly how to kick a drop kick. Again, when you drop the ball, point the ball up over your dominant shoulder; over your dominant foot. I am going to drop hit the ground simply like this and come back towards your foot a little bit. You are kicking the ball with this part of your foot here. Much like you would as a good striker with a soccer ball. I will show you that right here."
