How To Plan a Long Distance Camping Trip

"Hi, I'm Albert Hedgepeth with Expert Village and today we're going to talk a little bit about long distance hiking. There are a lot of trails out there. The three major ones are the PCT which is the Pacific Crest Trail, the AT which is the Appalachian Trail, and then the Continental Divide. Most of those span around two thousand miles. Some continent to continent span a little further. Whenever you're planning on doing one of those trips, data guides and companions are your life saver. These manuals have not only data on the trail from water source to water source, but also provide you with information about the towns, what resources are available while you're there, and what amenities are there for you whenever you approach the town. So, in other words, with these guides you're able to walk into town, know where the Laundromat is, know where the dry cleaner is, know where the hotels are, how much they charge, know what resources are there, movie theaters, all of the above so that you walk into town prepared. Whenever you're planning on doing any long distance trek, it's important to understand where and how you're getting your food. Food is essential. Without food, you will not make it. So, whenever you're going from these locations, a lot of times what people do is that they mail themselves food to post offices and ask the postmaster to hold it for them. That can be done at any post office. You're pretty much just, you put a box, title it, and say hold for your name, postmaster and then ship it off to the location. These data guides and companions will talk about that a lot so it's important that if you're planning on doing a long distance hike that you go ahead and get the data guides and resources that are available. If you plan and you use these materials, any long distance hike can be a vision quest for any one."
