"Hi, I'm Albert with Expert Village and today we're going to talk a little bit about what types of food to take with you while you're camping. It's really important to think about water weight. Water is important because it's heavy and if you're backpacking especially, can really put a burden on your body. Taking foods that are already dehydrated, that have already had the water taken out of them is very important. Things like oatmeal, crackers, macaroni, and other types of pastas are a very nutrient source and carbohydrate source while you're out backpacking. Whenever you start getting into dealing with canned goods, you really start carrying a lot of weight and not getting a lot of nutrients that are needed for the amount of effort that you are exerting. It's also important to break to these down into individual portion servings. You'll know if you're only going on a five day backpacking trip, that you don't need the entire box of pasta. So, planning a menu specifically to what the trip is about is very important too. If you're only going for three days and you're only having pasta twice, you should only take enough pasta for those days that you're actually going to be out in the woods. There are places where you might want to carry canned food. If you're doing a very short trip and you want to have high nutrients while you're out there, that might be one situation that you want to do that, but the majority of the time, it's really important to think about weight and nutrients. Looking at the nutrient guides at the sides of boxes is very important. Making sure that you're getting a good amount of not only vitamins but the other energy sources that you need protein. Any athletic activity that you do, it's very important to replenish your body with the resources that it's using. So, while you're planning your food budget for a camping trip, remember weight, how much energy you're getting from the food that you're eating, and remember that you want it to taste good."
