"Hi, I'm Albert Hedgepeth with Expert Village. Tying up your boat appropriately is really important. You don't want to come back to your boat slip and your boat not be there. So, there are couple different types of line systems that you can put on the boat. The first one is a spring-loaded line, which is a cinder block line where you just tie a cinder block to a rope and drop it down into the water. And what that does is it'll actually balance the boat, so whenever the boat is pulled to the left side, the right weight counters it, and vice versa. Then you also probably want to go ahead and attach a fixed line to the boat. You want these to have some slack in them, because whenever the tide changes, the level of the boat is going to rise. It's actually going to come up in the water. And as you can see from the coloring on the pole, the tide is about halfway down right now. The other type of lines that you?re going to want to put on is going to be spring lines. These are going to keep the boat directly in the middle of the slip. Also, you're going to need stern lines, which are at the back of the boat. These are your bowlines. And, as long as you tie up your boat pretty well and you get some spring-loaded lines, some spring lines, and you get some fixed lines attached, usually whenever you come back it's waiting for you."
