"OK, now before we get into the actual aerial, I am going to show you or tell you some martial arts applications to the aerial. Now obviously since you are lifting up into the air and its an aerial, it's not a cartwheel, you don't have to use your hands, that allows for a little bit of freedom. Now the aerial is a little bit of a flasher movement, now typically you may not have to use this move in combat, however, it still does have its uses. When you do the aerial, and your not using your hands, your free to use your hands to pick up objects, or to use it to your advantage in some other ways. Also, another form of attack using the aerial, by basically swinging the heel of your foot, or hitting someone as you come down. So let me just demonstrate an aerial, if someone, an attacker or someone were here, and not suspecting you did this move quickly, you could basically you could still hit them. Also, the key thing with the aerial is again, that you lift up and this move is not about just flipping over but to get an extra height by lifting up your waist. So when you lift up and you do the aerial, you'll land on the other side. So that can also be an advantage, if you need to quickly and rapidly change your footing or change your positioning or to get over something or if someone is sweeping or tripping you. So there's many different applications and uses for doing the aerial."
