"I know it looks confusing with so many wires and cables; just remember that everything has a from and a to. Video output from DVD player will either go to your receiver or to the back of your television; same with the audio; from and to. If your DVD player uses a digital coax cable for digital audio, simply plug one end of the digital cable to your DVD player’s output, which is usually an orange color for digital coax. On the back of your receiver, you will send an orange digital coax input; just plug it in. For use of an optical cable, simply follow the same steps from the back of the DVD player to the receiver. The input and output for your optical cable usually glows red. Your speaker wires will also be plugged into the back of your receiver. A good tip is to always label your cables and wires for quick reference. Use masking tape or colored electrical tape as I have done here. This is extremely helpful when you need to trouble shoot a problem. Plug the coppered color side of the wire to the red input of your receiver and the silver colored wire to the black input. Repeat these color attachments to the back of each speaker; copper color to red and silver color to black. Some speaker wires will have the same color wires. In this case, there will be markings or writing on the wire sleeves to distinguish the difference between the 2 sides. The active or powered subwoofer we are using will be attached with a RCA cable. This will transmit the signal from the receiver to the subwoofer’s amplifier."
