"Hi! I am Fred Norwood on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to discuss the different types of lenses available for your 35 mm SLR camera. SLR cameras allow you to photograph a wide variety of subjects by changing the type of lens that you use. Most 35 mm SLRs come with a normal lens, which is normally 50 mm. This approximates what your eye normally sees. You are also able to get telephoto lenses, which zoom in on objects far in a distance without you physically having to go closer and wide angle lenses which allow you to get more of a field of view in the picture without having to back up further than you possibly can. These different types of lenses are described by the focal length and the size of the aperture. The focal length of the lens easily relates to the magnification of the lens and the field of view. The higher the number the more magnification you have. Most telephoto lenses are in a range of 105 mm and up. Wide angle lenses offer less magnification and a wider angle of view. These are listed in the range of 17-40 mm. The size of the aperture is also important in selecting a lens. If you are planning on doing sport photography, you want to make sure that you have the fastest speed available in your camera to freeze the action. Usually you may need to purchase a lens that has a faster aperture or a smaller F-stop which is in the range of 2.8-3.5."
