"We've pretty much run through the basic setups for external microphones using the Lavalier system, attaching a shotgun, using Dynamic microphone. But now I'm going to start talking about combinations of those microphones. You probably noticed on your XH A1 that you do have two XLR inputs. And, this is so you can run two separate microphones, two channels if you want. There's just a great benefit to running two different microphones. All our microphones here, as we've been talking about, have different properties. The Shotgun is a pretty sensitive condenser mic and it has a very directional approach of just getting what's in front of it. A Dynamic is great for almost like reporter style. It's not very sensitive at all and you're only going to be hearing what's in front of it. Typically, whoever is using this need to be holding it in front of their mouth. The Lavalier system, fantastic for interviews and placing kind of a hidden mic and getting great sound. Each mic. has a bunch of different properties and for the situation that your shooting in, you might require putting two of these mics. together, running in one through your left and right channel. Then when you're in post, you can duplicate those channels up if you want to and use whichever channel you need. Like, maybe for the first half of your piece the Lav. was your best set of audio and then all of a sudden in the next half the Lavs. not working so well and you have that other channel there. Or for some reason, you don't really want that Lavalier sound anymore; you want what the Shotgun mic's. picking up. It gives you the option to have those two channels of audio. It's also a much safer way to record because you've got two channels of audio in case, say for with the Lavalier system there's some kind of interference with the wireless. Let's get started setting up two different mics. together on your XH A1."
