How to Set Up Dynamic Microphones

"Let's set up our Dynamic microphone. For my situation, I'm going to pretend like I'm going for an interview style, news reporter, standing in front of the camera, holding up the microphone. So this particular microphone we're, of course going to need our XLR. I'm using a longer XLR because the cable will be running down the camera and then up to the reporter, or whoever is using it. Let's go ahead and plug in a mic and then we'll just plug straight into the camera like we've been doing this whole time. Again, I'm going to go straight into channel one, and that's the channel I always use if I'm only running one channel of audio, I just always keep it on channel one. We've got our mic continuator here, and most likely we're not going to need that for your Dynamic microphone because, like I said, it's not quite as sensitive as condenser mics. We want to make sure we're set to mic. and we also want to make sure we only want to run one channel, switch it to channel one, if we want to run to two channels or duplicate this one channel of audio into stereo channels, we switch it on to channel one and two. Again, this is what I usually do. If your microphone requires Phantom power, switch it on down there. But, we're not going to need that on our Dynamic mic. Because even through it does not have a battery, it does not require power. We just switch it on and we're ready to go and next I'll show you how to set the levels."
