How to Mount Shotgun Microphones to the Canon XH A1

"Let me show you how to get the shotgun mic, or in our case just the cardioids, set up on our XH A1. What's great about the XH A1 is this little mount right here for exactly this kind of microphone. You just unscrew right here and it opens right up. I found that my microphone is actually a little bit lose in here. What I did is cut out a piece of t-shirt that I used to lay inside here to give me a little extra padding. You'll need to figure out if you need to do this or not. I'll simply just place the microphone in and screw it in. And, you just want to make sure, the reason I use that t-shirt like I said is because it was too lose before, so make sure your microphone is not going to fall out after you screw it in. You don't want it too tight but you want it to be in there pretty good, like that one is right there. We'll take an XLR, and I just got a really short XLR for this because the mic runs right here on the camera, and that's probably what you'll want to be doing as well. So carefully just make my connections right here, and I'm going back into channel one just because I'm only running one channel of audio right now. Remember, we want this option right here, line mic has to be set to mic. If we want to record into one channel, right below that we can set one channel, or if we want to duplicate this one channel into stereo we can switch it over to channel one and two. Make sure that, in the menu, you set it on so your microphone or your camera is picking up the XLR input and not the built in microphone. That's how you set up this Shotgun, or cardioids mic on this XH A1."
