The term aerobics, meaning "with air", came from Dr. Kenneth Cooper, of the San Antonio Air Force Hospital. He designated it as the name for the system of exercises he employed to prevent coronary artery disease. It is appropriate nomenclature given that the exercises are designed to condition the lungs to more effectively use oxygen and to strengthen the cardiovascular system. For those who choose to use it, aerobics is an important part of fighting heart disease and obesity.

"A very common move you are going to see in a step class is what we call over the top. It comes from a side approach where my shoulder and hip are facing the bench and it's for counts 1 2 3 4 a tap down on the floor. As I mentioned before, you may remember we try to eliminate tapping down on the floor because it's not as natural as being able to just lift up over the steps. So an over the top becomes to what we call weave step, think of weaving. So I'm going to step lift march on the floor, 1 2 3 4 step again lifting the arms will help you lift your body up and over the bench. So it becomes a more natural step because I'm not tapping on the floor so that is over my top, let me show you from the other angle. You may still hear this call over the top, you will still here this called over the top or I can tap on the floor or tap on the bench, step and tap down or start to go into what we call the weave step which adds intensity and it eliminates tap down on the floor."
