"Hi, I'm Pam on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to teach you how to bring home fundamentals learned at school. Another great way to be involved in what your kid does every day, is to participate in a study that's going on in the classroom. Most classrooms send home a calendar of what's going on and what the children are doing for the day. You can see, okay, well it looks like this week, based on what their doing, their studying this topic. If it's something that you're knowledgeable about, families can be a great source of information. For instance, we just had a fire truck come to our school, or if you are in the police force or a firefighter, ask if he can come in and talk to the class, kids will go nuts. They love it. You can bring your police hat, your fire hat, any equipment that you want to bring. Let the kids look at it. They are not only going to be looking at it and enjoying it, they will be asking questions. Trust me. They will be learning at the same time. For instance, we had one family who went on vacation for the summer, like every family does. When they went away, they found coconuts. While they were on vacation, they cracked open the coconuts, ate out of the coconuts, learned all about it. The father came in and actually did this demonstration for the class. It was a great way for the kids to learn about something that they normally wouldn't see in that type of form. They also got to taste it, which most of them didn't like, but it was still fun. Their learning and their having fun and kids really, really love for their parents to be involved."
