"Hi, I’m Sharon Wilharm on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. And now I’d like to talk about field trips in home schooling. Field trips are the backbone of home schoolers, home schoolers love field trips and they’re unlimited, the number of field trips you could go on. Now some of the most fun are the behind the scenes, have you ever wondered how they do some of the things? For instance, how do they make pizza at the pizza place, well call up a few friends and go take a tour. When we did it, they even gave us free pizza, so it’s a great incentive. Most fast food places will take students on tours and they’ll get to see how they make the hamburgers and the French fries and we even went on one to the grocery store and got to go to the bakery and the frozen foods, and the kids had a wonderful time getting to see how the milk is put in the shelves. It doesn’t take much to entertain them and they’re learning at the same time. The same thing goes with newspapers, radio stations, television stations, most of them would love to take the kids around and share exactly what they do and the kids have a better appreciation of each of the places. Of course don’t forget on the recreation ideas, like going bowling or skating, miniature golf, swimming or just park days. Our family favorite was turning vacations into learning adventures, when you go on vacation, visit historic sites, educational museums. Before you go on vacation, study about the places that you’re going to go, and then you’ll be better prepared when you get there and then afterwards you discuss it and discuss what you learned from it. So wherever you go and whatever you’re doing, turn it into an educational field trip. "
