"Hi, I’m Sharon Wilharm on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. And I’d like to continue the discussion on selecting a curriculum, this is part two. Now we discussed there are two types of curriculum, those which basically hold your hand and tell you exactly what to do and those that are more of independent in nature, well how do you decide which one is right for you? Well the ones like Abecca and the ones where you buy all the books and the text and the tests and the worksheets and all that, those are great if you’re a beginner because basically you just buy the books and you follow them in your home schooling, it’s as easy as that, it doesn’t require anything else on your part. The ones that are more independent such as unit studies or if you decide to go with a classical approach, well then you’re going to have to do a little bit more work and so that is great if you have some experience teaching, if you have confidence, if you really get into planning, well then you’re going to want to go with that approach because you would feel stifled if you would have to go with a textbook all the time. So it just depends on your level of confidence, you level of abilities and in most cases, the ones that make it the easiest for you are going to be more expensive and the ones where you have to do more work, well they’re going to be easier to afford and so you just have to choose which works best for your family and for you children.
