Homeschooling and the Arts: How to Teach Your Children Fine Arts

Now a lot of parents have trouble fitting in the arts in their regular curriculum because they feel like they’re not confident to teach it. They don’t know how to play a musical instrument, they don’t draw and so they feel inhibited by it. But there are plenty of opportunities, even for the non-artistically inclined. A good way is to get involved in instruction in the community, for instance, children’s theater, they’ll have experience with both drama and music, perhaps set design or any number of different types of arts you could be involved in through theater. Of course a lot of communities have community chorus there’s also private and group lessons in voice, in various instruments. There’s traveling workshops, most towns have different groups that come and they will teach workshops on an art workshop, or a drama workshop, also you have traveling performances where they will come and they will perform different plays or various symphony or the opera and so there’s many opportunities that way. Your children can be involved in church choir, take dance lessons, a great way is just to go to festivals in your community and listen to the different performers or to watch the various artisans, and they can learn that way, special events that are going on. All you need to do is read you newspaper, especially on the weekend when they have the up and coming events and read the events that will help tie in the arts with your home school."
