Tae Kwon Do L-Stance

The next fundamental exercise that you’ll be practicing is an L stance. As well as learning how to properly measure it, make sure your distance is correct. An L stance is predominantly designed for attacks coming from a diagonal, or from the side and allows for lateral movement as well as front to back movement. It’s your basic position that you learn prior to sparring. From a parallel stance, you’re going to rotate your left foot so that its almost completely sideways with your right foot you’re going to take a medium step out, almost in a direct line with that left leg. So both feet are turned in approximately 15 degrees, very slightly, with roughly one inch between your feet. Both knees are soft and bent, you’re going to put 70 percent of the weight on the back leg, so you’re leaning back slightly, this allows for this leg to move freely.
