Guide to Sports in Peru for Travelers

Let's say you're going to go surfing and actually Peru, it's a wonderful place for surfing, I don't know if you follow surfing, but the world champion--the women's world champion is a Peruvian girl. I will recommend to take a wet suit. Usually, you can find a board there if you want to surfing, pretty easy, there'll be different kind of boards, but wet suits are expensive and they are not good. And the ocean--I mean, the Pacific Ocean, it is not a warm place, so it is cold, after a while you're going to get cold. If you want to go I mean river rafting, don't forget the shoes. Vests and everything will be provided by the company, but good weather shoes are very important. And no matter what kind of sports, if you are into biking or hiking, take one of these camel bags. We don't have a camel bag, you can always--accessible, they are very, very expensive to get, so it's very easy, you know. And water, you can buy water--bottled water everywhere, it's inexpensive, like 30 cents a bottle. So don't risk it, take one of those and one of the nicest things about Peru is actually, you can take part of the equipment that you need and you can rent part of whatever you need out there, but if your interest is in climbing then you probably have to pack absolutely everything. It's very expensive to rent climbing equipment. I heard it's not that good and you don't want to take a risk. If you go scuba diving, we do scuba dive, but not as much. It's pretty safe. We have a national park that you can actually scuba dive and the waters up in northern part of Peru are warm enough; otherwise, everywhere you go, it's going to be cold."
