Series Summary

Budapest, Hungary is often considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the “Paris of the East,” becoming for the last decades a political, cultural, and economic hub. Beginning as a Celtic settlement in the first century BCE, the Romans took over the city at the beginning of the Christian era and held it long into the reign of the Eastern Empire. Soon, however, wave after wave of barbarian tribe claimed the town and added their own marks to the rich culture that was growing. The Ottomans ruled Budapest before Mongol invasions and French occupation. The cities of Buda and Pest that would become Budapest in 1873 were even key sights during the Renaissance that spread through Northern Italy and Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. Many other nations controlled the cities before Hungary claimed sovereignty in 1918.

Video Transcript

"Hi, my name is Dante Mena and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village to talk about this wonderful city called Budapest, in Budapest, Hungary. I'm the author of this travel guide. It's one of the hunter travel guides called "Hungary". It's now being featured throughout all of the Barnes and Noble stores in the United States, and basically the English speaking world. And as we look at Budapest, you'll find it an inviting place, and a place that can also have some things that you need to know about in order to travel comfortably and have a good time. Taking a look at the city, we see the Buddha side of the city, across the Danube River, a very famous, romantic river. Over to the Pest side of the city, which is in the East. And then as we look at the city, we can look around and we can look out into the distance toward the borderlands of the Au Ferd, what is called the "Plains of Hungary". Hungary has many things to offer. Starting in Budapest, we can take a look for instance, at this place where we are at, which is the Citadel. And it offers us a grand view of the city of Budapest, and out to other sections of the country. "
