How to Make a Game Out of a Writing Exercise

Game number three is another energy-killing game, but it's a writing exercise this time. What you do is rearrange your class. You have tables down the right hand side of your class and tables down the left hand side of your class like this. You take all of your students and you break them up into pairs having half of the class standing on the right hand side, half of the class standing on the left. Now the point of the game is this: you take a segment of any reading material you might be dealing with, and what happens is the children on the right are the readers. They have to read a passage from your text. Then right across to the right, where the students are on the left, are the writers. They then have to tell that student, verbally, what they've just read, and the student on the left will write it down. They carry on doing this, running back and forth, back and forth, until the paragraph you've picked is finished. This can be even better fun if you turn around periodically and shout change. The writers become readers and the readers become the writers, and you can shout change as many times in the game as you like. Another great energy-taking game, but also very effective too.
