Getting Around Bangkok

Now, when deciding where to live in Thailand, sometimes it's a better idea to find your work before you find your home. Bangkok is well known for its traffic jams. And if you're not careful, what you could do is end up anticipating two to four hours traveling and in traffic jams, too. What I'm going to do now is show you how to get around Bangkok. One of the best ways to get around Bangkok is by taxi. Once you're in the taxi, what you need to do is make sure the meter's on. Ninety-five percent of all the taxi drivers in Bangkok are honest, but there are a few around that will leave the meter off and charge you a lot of money. Now, a normal trip, say, six kilometers in a taxi will cost you around sixty to seventy baht. Or you can take a motorcycle for about ten baht on a short journey. Right here you see a van. There are many of these about and they will take you direct and usually very, very quickly on tollways to where you want to go for about twenty-five baht. Here you can travel by the usual tuk-tuk. They're a little bit more hair-raising and a little trickier when trying to book them. They tend to want to take you everywhere but where you want to go. And can try and get more money out of you every time. The bus service is very good in Bangkok for ten baht a trip. A few years ago, Bangkok launched its sky train service. You can also travel by underground. And that normally costs around about thirty baht per trip."
