"BRIAN FIELDS: Hey how's it going, I'm Brian Fields here at the Aussie Island in Wilmington North Carolina. We're here on behalf of Expert Village. I'm here to talk to you about picking out a surfboard and what you can do to help take care of it in the meantime. Okay talking about the size of the board you're choosing. Starting with the shortboard, most people when they pick out shortboard they're going to get one that--usually it's going to be at least a couple of inches taller than you yourself. I'm 5'11, I usually ride about a 6'2, it usually ends up about being about 18-1/2 to 19 inches wide and around two and a quarter inches thick. Anytime you get in a size around that, they're going to be pretty much close to that. Like I say shortboard; you're looking a few inches taller than you. Once you start getting much bigger than that, you're kinda getting away from the true reasons for riding a shortboard. A longboard typically is going to be I'd say at least about two feet if not more two feet taller than you yourself. I'd say I'm around 5'11 6 foot, longboard I'm going to ride at least an 8 foot long board if I was going to pick one out for myself, I'm probably closer to around 9 feet. If you get into your fun board, that's going to be more of your decision of how big you actually want to go with fun board. It could range anywhere from 6'5 to 6'10 up to around 8 foot. Like I say a lot of it is just going to come down to your preference, how much you want to float, how easy you want to paddle into that wave and how true you want your board to work for you for what it's suppose to."
