"BRIAN FIELDS: Hey, how's it going? I'm Brian Fields here at Aussie Island in Wilmington, North Carolina. We're here on behalf of Expert Village, here to talk to you about picking out a surfboard and what you can do to help take care of it in the meantime. Okay, right here we have our long boards. Like I said, a long board, make no mistake, it's not a beginner's surfboard. Many people, they surf nothing but long boards for their entire life. It's more of a style than, say a beginner's surfboard or whatever you'd like to say. Long board though, as you see here, big board, lot of volume in it. Most long boards range from around 9 to 10 feet. You can still find them shorter than that, sometimes around 8 or so feet, they can be longer as well. Main thing, though, you have a big long board, most always a rounded nose. Some, more rounded than others, but pretty much round nose. Good, wide board. It's going to give you a lot of stability. Allow you early and easy entry into the wave. A lot of long boards, it comes down to their style. Like I say, it's not a beginner's board but more of what kind of style you have. If you want to be on something you can cruise on, so to say, rather than be on a small, short board where you're more moving all over the place, a long board might be the way to go for you. And you usually have a single fin or sometimes, you can get little side bites for them. Some also come like a thruster, have 3 fins. Different setups for, like I say, the preference of the wave, preference of the surfer itself so. That's your long board. Colors, you can get any color on 'em you want, like any board, and that's pretty much it."
