Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
If you already know how to knit, then you’ll see that there’s really no trick to binding off in the round.
Step2
Knitting in the round is done when you want to create a garment that is seamless, like a hat or a skirt, or perhaps a double-layer scarf.
How you want to finish off the piece depends on what you’re creating. If it’s a hat or a skirt, you probably want to decrease the amount of stitches more or less gradually before eventually binding off the needles completely; the process is the same.
Step3
If you’re making a scarf, or a purse, then you probably want a flat end, in which case you’ll bind off all at once.
There are two ways to do this.
Step4
Method one:
From the left side of the work, take the second stitch from the left and carry it over the first immediate stitch. Then knit. This will decrease one stitch.
Step5
Method two:
From the right side of the work, take the second stitch from the right and carry it over the first immediate stitch. Then knit. This will decrease one stitch.
Step6
You can decrease a little at a time, or you can use these methods to completely bind off your work. While knitting in the round, once your piece is long enough, you can begin this process at any point – when you are down to one stitch, simply pull the thread through the last loop, tighten to hold it, and hide the thread with a crochet hook.
