How to do a backhandspring

Video Preview

Introduction

If you have never attempted to do any type of gymnastics in any way please don't try this! I don't want anyone to get hurt. This is mainly for people that have an idea of how to do it. (and yes, that is me in the video.)

Tips & Warnings:

  • DO NOT try if you have never done before or even know what I'm talking about.
Step1
The first step is to actually have a spotter. That's the only way to get comfortable enough with the stunt to learn how to do it. Have them spot you enough until you feel comfortable by yourself on the wedge.

The first part of a backhandspring is sitting. Sit with your back straight, don't slouch, and sit all the way until you feel like you going to fall. Make sure not the drop your chest, or swing your arms past your body! Keep your head up and your arms ready.
Step2
Once you sit so far that you feel like your going to fall jump. Jump back as hard as you can. Don't throw your head back and make sure that you put your arms down! When you hit your hands DO NOT turn them inwards towards each other. That could cause you to break your arm. Also, Don't bend your arms or you might just bump your head.
Step3
Once your hands hit the floor stretch your legs out in the shape of a banana. Keep your legs straight and your toes pointed. Kick those things over and make sure they land on the floor. Don't undercut either (which is when your feet land to close to your hands). Once your are landed and stable punch up, which is the only way to get ready for a next stunt!
Step4
Now that you know the basics when you feel comfortable enough doing this with a spotter, then head over to a wedge. Have someone spot you the first few times, and make sure you start at the very top. Try it by yourself at the top of the wedge and if you do well work your way down it. Finally, you will make it to the floor, and you'll be able to do it all your by yourself!! Just keep your wits about you and don't get scared.
