Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    =CHAR(ROW())
    =CHAR(ROW())

    In cell A1 of an open Excel worksheet, enter this formula: =CHAR(ROW())

  2. Step 2

    Press enter and then copy or fill down the formula through the column until you get to cell A255. To fill down the formula, click in cell A1, drag the mouse down until you reach cell A255, release the mouse (cell A255 will be white surrounded by a black border while all the cells above will be highlighted), and then use Ctrl D to fill the formula down.

  3. Step 3
    Column Selected
    Column Selected

    After filling the formula down, click on the Column A header to select the entire column.

  4. Step 4
    Choose Font

    Now, you can choose a different font. You can easily choose a different from the Font box on the formatting toolbar (highlighted in red in the image at the left) or you can choose a different font by clicking on Format in the top menu bar, then click on Cells, and finally, click on the Font tab.

    In your worksheet, scroll down to view the characters available. You can view other font characters by repeating Steps 3 and 4 where you select the column and then choose a different font.

  5. Step 5
    Shortcut Key
    Shortcut Key

    To learn the keyboard shortcut for any character, look at the row number corresponding to the character. If the row number is less than two characters, add a zero to the front. Then, to perform the shortcut, hold down on the Alt key and press the corresponding numbers on the number pad on the right side of keyboard. In the example at left, the shortcut would be Alt 037. The receiving cell for your shortcut must be formatted with the same font setting.
