" I’m Bobbi Linkemer on behalf of expertvillage.com, and I’d like to invite you to visit my website at writeanonfictionbook.com. If someone offers you a contract; if you’re going with a regular publisher or an agent, you should have your attorney look at it. I was about to take on a project and I was sent the contract and I thought this just doesn’t look right to me. I sent it to my attorney, she made several suggestions, and I sent it back with those suggestions. What I was told by the client was this is it. This is the contract, take it or leave it. I said I can’t sign it the way it is and I knew why, because I had an attorney and they said bye. No matter how bad you want a contract, no matter how much you want to be published by somebody, if it’s not a good contract you wouldn’t know it, and it’s worth the investment to have someone who can look at and say don’t sign it the way it is.
