I am Carl Shepard, professional bass instructor, still going over some slap techniques here, one of the basic things that groove bass players do is simply just slap and hammer on at the same time. In Pentatonic scale say in E, we can use hammer ons and slapping as a very groove base technique and this will gets you more gigs than all the fancy stuff will, so people want bass players that can groove and that is the most important thing."
