"I am Carl Shepard, professional bass instructor. We are going over some hammer on techniques here. In an A minor Pentatonic scale, there are definitely a lot of hammer on techniques that you can go through. Typically you are going to be using your index and your pinkie or your index and your ring finger to do this and that goes for slapping and hammering as well, so when you use your fingers, you are definitely going to use both of those fingers, the pinkie and the ring finger to do just about all hammer on and pull offs that you are going to want to do. One important part of that is making sure you leave your index on the note that you are leaving basically and hammering on to the next note from while you do that. And this is also important in pull offs. But hammering on you want to leave the finger you are leaving on there just in case you do want to pull off afterwards, so one thing that students do is they want to move their finger away as soon as they do it and then they will lose the ability to do the pull off. So keeping your index down is very important. "
