on 8/2/2008 I love your videos! You have helped me alot. I use to play base about 20 years ago and just got into other things. I am disabled now so I bought a bass and starting playing again. I am trying to get get the slap down but you do it so quick that I can't pick it out. It would really be great if you could put a tab with your videos so we could get it down before we move to the next lesson! Your are doing a great job!

on 11/10/2008 He is playing C-A-A#-B. It looks tricky because the bottom note of the A is played open, and the octave note is played on the G string - 2nd fret.

on 8/2/2008 Never played an instrument before... just bought a Bass spent one day screwing around... today felt like trying to add a little brain/technique to it... this dude Carl is real cool he goes from extreme basic (me)... to extreme sick or groove (him) anyway I still know very little about music, but hey I sound a -- of a lot more bad -- today than I did yesterday!

"I am Carl Shepard, professional bass instructor and I will be going over a little bit about slap technique and one of the basic techniques in that is using an octave and of course we are going to be using our thumb and the side of our thumb to slap, so when you form an octave on your left hand, you use your index and your pinkie okay, and an octave is something that is the same note but a tone higher and you use your index here, your pinkie here to make the octave. The octave is going to be two frets apart and one string apart and then slap on the note that your index is using with your thumb and then pluck on the higher octave with your index where your pinkie is on your left hand, if I make sense. One more time, when you slap, you are slapping the note that the left hand index is playing and then you pluck the note that the left hand the pinkie is playing. So that is the basic slap technique. Octave is always the best notes to use for that, so that is a single slap and single pluck. "
