"I’m Lee. I have a degree in architecture and about ten years construction experience, and we’re doing a kitchen remodel. Now, I’ve done some accent lighting over just the sink and over the stove. We actually had some torn up spots on the outside layer - some of this is patched over here, too - outside layer of plywood on the cabinets. So we just went ahead and cut a round circle in there and recessed a wall mount or flesh mount light, took a fairly odd piece of glass that we had, drilled three holes in it, and screwed it up over the light. Now, since the glass is beveled, it does increase the heat of the light, so it seems.
You can also use a thin cut piece of stone and just mount that up on the bottom of the cabinet and put the light recessed above it. It will change the color of the light some. And you can also - really hard to find in the hardware store but you can make little switched plugs. They sell them at Wal-Mart, too - in fact I bought this one at Wal-Mart - and they’re really hard to find because they just have one little bitty spot. But it’d be in the hardware somewhere. And that’s how you would use some accent or recessed lighting in your new kitchen remodel."
