"I'm Tom Shean and today on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to show you how to install a metal roof. Measurements are taken top and bottom for each piece. Each installer has its own preferred spot on the panel to use as a con base point to measure from. On the continental panel it is at the transformation point where the concave meets convects. Subtract an 1/8 of an inch from the bottom measurement for gable cuts to allow for lapping. Remember, the measurement take in our bend points. An additional 1 to 1 1/2 inches must then be added to find the final cut line. Multiple measurements should be taken, then the panels cut and bent to minimize travel up and down the roof. Try to complete one fill at a time. To minimize waste, pieces from the valley cuts are utilized for hips. Installers prefer to complete the left side of the fill first, leaving them with a selection of cut pieces for the right side all with overlapped edges which can be utilized as filler pieces. Additionally all exposed valley bends should be given a protected coat of acrylic on the bends to seal the traumatized areas. As the rear up stand of the panels are stronger than the front edge, a slight distortion of the front edge will occur on diagonal bends. Depending on the angle you may have to compensate for this distortion on the bottom measurement when marking your cut and bend lines."
