"Hi, I'm Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian and owner of Life Skills Nutrition. In this segment I'm going to talk about exercise in diabetes. Physical activity is recommended for all American's, it is especially important for those who have diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends getting thirty minutes of exercise five days a week. Exercise regimen should consist of any of the following; brisk walking, dancing, biking, low-impact aerobics, swimming, playing tennis, and these would be the aerobic activities. Strength training activities would be lifting weights, palates, yoga and elastic bands. It is also important to stretch. Before stretching to begin your workout is important that you go ahead and get warmed up maybe five minutes before you start stretching so that you don't pull any muscles and cause any pulled muscles so then that you can't exercise. These are some great ideas for exercising. It is very important when you decide to choose an exercise regimen that you choose something that you love and it doesn't seem like work, it seems like something that released stress, gets your body moving and it makes you feel better."
