"Hi! My name is Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian and owner of Life Skills Nutrition. In this segment, I'm going to be talking about fiber and blood sugar control. The American Dietetic Association recommends 30-35 grams per day for men and 21-25 grams per day for women. Choosing some of these foods like legumes, fresh fruits and vegetables. Broccoli is very high in fiber. Even starchy vegetables like potatoes, whole grain breads, and lettuce. Other foods also containing high amounts of fiber are barley, bulgur, and brown rice. It's very important to add whole grains into your diet. Sometimes people who have diabetes are afraid to eat carbohydrate-containing foods. However, whole grains do have a lot of chromium in them, which helps regulate blood sugar control. It's very important to be sure that you are adding the appropriate amount of whole grains into your diet. Your registered dietitian can help you with this."
